Meludia: Auditory and music training for CI users

General

Hear the music. And much more. With the entertaining online music brain training Meludia.

Music is one of the most complex listening tasks, especially for people with a hearing loss. MED-EL has partnered with Meludia, developer of music-based brain trainings and has curated exercises to meet the needs of people with hearing implants.

Benefits of Meludia

With Meludia, users have a tool to

  • enhance their listening abilities and accuracy
  • challenge their brain by training attention and listening focus
  • develop their musical skills, on four levels, from beginner to expert.
  • improve music appreciation.

Meludia offers a structured and guided training that allows users to follow their individual training pace. The version offered on myMED-EL was curated for cochlear implant recipients, based on a scientific study with MED-EL CI users.

Beyond music: emotions and speech understanding in noise

The benefits of Meludia, a music-based brain training, reach far beyond music. With Meludia, users practice listening skills that can help them in day-to-day communication. Distinguishing between multiple simultaneous sounds, is an ability that is required to enjoy music – and to understand speech in challenging listening situations such as in noisy surroundings. The tasks the brain performs when listening to music and in noisy situations are quite similar.

Improving pitch perception, one group of exercises of Meludia, helps with speech melody. Being able to hear a conversation partner’s speech melody conveys an additional emotional aspect to a message. Was it an ironic one? Was the talker annoyed? These fine details are conveyed with speech melody. This is how cochlear implant users can benefit from Meludia training apart from the music aspect.

Special offer

All the skills that are exercised with Meludia are designed to help enjoy music with a hearing implant. To keep users attracted to Meludia, it was designed in an entertaining, fun and easy to understand way. To reach best benefit, Meludia co-founder Vincent Chantrier, who has a hearing loss himself, recommends five weekly training sessions of 15-20 minutes.
