Flores:<\/strong> La sordoceguera es una deficiencia que compromete dos sistemas sensoriales complejos: el visual y el auditivo. <em>\u201cPor el evidente impacto vital de esta doble p\u00e9rdida sensorial, las personas sordociegas tienen prioridad en cualquier programa de IC del sistema p\u00fablico.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>La p\u00e9rdida auditiva puede ser parcial o total, lo que junto con la perdida visual ocasiona un importante detrimento en la comunicaci\u00f3n y lenguaje, as\u00ed como en la orientaci\u00f3n y movilidad, y por lo tanto en la autonom\u00eda del paciente.<\/p>\n<p>Como cualquier caso de hipoacusia, debe tratarse de manera temprana con pr\u00f3tesis auditivas, y en casos avanzados valorar la posibilidad de implante coclear. Para esta \u00faltima, es necesario realizar una serie de pruebas audiol\u00f3gicas, de imagen y evaluaciones logop\u00e9dicas con el fin de seleccionar a los candidatos adecuados a esta alternativa. Una vez que un paciente cumple los criterios necesarios para la colocaci\u00f3n de un IC, esta opci\u00f3n requiere una intervenci\u00f3n quir\u00fargica, de unas tres horas aproximadamente de duraci\u00f3n en la que se introduce la parte interna del IC en el o\u00eddo y bajo la piel.<\/p>\n<p>Un mes tras la intervenci\u00f3n, se procede a la activaci\u00f3n del IC, que consiste en colocar la parte externa del mismo, mediante un im\u00e1n, y la programaci\u00f3n inform\u00e1tica del dispositivo para comenzar la estimulaci\u00f3n, es decir, la percepci\u00f3n de sonidos. La rehabilitaci\u00f3n logop\u00e9dica ser\u00e1 fundamental en este momento para llegar a ordenar esos sonidos en el cerebro y conseguir entender el mensaje hablado. Este periodo se puede extender entre 3-6 meses y hasta un a\u00f1o en algunos casos.<\/p>\n<h3>hear<strong>better:<\/strong> <strong>\u00bfHasta qu\u00e9 punto puede un IC mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas sordociegas?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Dra. Flores:<\/strong> Para una persona sordociega, la implantaci\u00f3n coclear es abrir de nuevo una ventana al mundo. La recuperaci\u00f3n de la audici\u00f3n le permite comunicarse y evitar el aislamiento social, facilita la inserci\u00f3n laboral, disminuye en gran medida el deterioro cognitivo del paciente y el desarrollo de enfermedades como la depresi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<h3>hear<strong>better:<\/strong> <strong>\u00bfExiste alguna diferencia a la hora de tratar\/ operar a un paciente con sordoceguera frente a alguien solo con p\u00e9rdida auditiva?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Dra.
